Just Another Manic Monday

So there we were, my 6-year-old daughter and I, just lounging in our living room, counting her Halloween loot. And suddenly a big chunk of my ceiling collapses right down on top of us! 100% awesomeness.

So the weird thing is, it's totally dry where the popcorn fell off...but there's a wet spot just below it. It rained really hard last night, and we're missing a roof tile. We have a temporary patch on it (because the roof tiles are no longer made, so we've been searching Craigslist and re-use places FOREVER), but apparently our patch job isn't very good. Doh!

Oh, well. We've already scraped all the popcorn ceilings in our upstairs. I just had hoped to get our kitchen completed before moving on to this room.

As you can see, we have vaulted ceilings, so I spent quite a few hours with my head about 14 feet above the ground. As a rock-climbing fan, I'm not terribly afraid of heights, but it's definitely much more enjoyable when you're harnessed in and have your hubby at belay.

Here's what was finished after one afternoon of moving furniture, scraping, sweeping, and vacuuming like a madwoman.

I have no idea how we're going to reach the center of the room...there's nothing to prop the ladder against, and our ladder is already ginormous when folded in 1/2. What a pain.

But, the good news is I now know I can reach all the walls and ceilings in my dining room (it ends at about the 1/2 way point of the living room, so ceilings aren't as high). I may attempt to adios those nasty red walls on my own. I'm seeing primer in my near future...

Ode to the Mom Cave: Round 2

Well, I've accidentally successfully completed my first project for my Mom Cave!

You can click HERE to read all about the flower pillow.

But the room still basically looks like this:

So here's my Ode to the Mom Cave:

ODE TO THE MOM CAVE

Oh, that I had a mom cave
A place to call my own
No one touching my trinkets
At least 25 square feet to roam

It won't cost much to tackle
Two hundred fifty should do
I'd conquer the paint and curtains
And my old desk would transform to new

I'd frilly my bare naked walls
Fix the sad window trim rust
Pull out some fancy pillows
And organization is a must

As I'm new to the blogging world
And just bought my first home, it's true
I'd love to start with some moo-lah
And spread aloha from me to you

Mahalo,

Charlie

With a little luck, and some expert shopping, I'd love to add some of these to the space:
